disabling the extra 'spam' folder, keep 'junk' folder.

Solution

Depending on how you interact with your email, there may appear a 'spam' folder in your list of folders in the webmail system.
The folder that we default to, for filter handling is 'junk', so the 'spam' folder should be deactivated.

In webmail (assuming desktop webmail, mobile webmail will be a similar process) in the top-right, click 'settings'.
In the settings view, in the left column, click 'folders'. then in the middle column, UNCHECK 'spam'.
You will notice that further up in the hierarchy 'INBOX.Junk' remains checked - as this is the proper folder for setting webmail filters to move spam content to.

attempting to replace the default junk folder with this additional spam folder will yield unpredictable and undesirable results. Use the JUNK folder as prescribed.
